What is the DNS Course?

The Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) is a 1-year pre-sea training program approved by the Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping), Government of India. It serves as the first step toward becoming a Deck Officer (Captain) in the Merchant Navy.

Upon completing the DNS course, cadets join ships as Deck Cadets, gain the required sea-time experience, and later appear for the Second Mate Certificate of Competency (CoC) examination — paving the way to rise through the ranks and ultimately become a Ship Captain.
